Mitchell’s boys and girls swimming teams are off to undefeated starts and have already begun shattering school records.

Against Gulf last week, the Mustangs broke four school records – and had a fifth wiped away because of a false start in the 200 freestyle relay. Mitchell had already broken other records this fall.

“Everyone is swimming lifetime best times left and right,” Mitchell coach Scott Hernon said.

Freshman Taylor Anderson set two records. She finished the 50 freestyle with a time of 0:25:30 and joined Mazie Siddens, Claudia Cancello and Elaina Cancello on the 400 freestyle relay (3:57:31).

Siddens has new records in the 200 freestyle in 2:02:31 – almost two seconds faster than the old mark – 100 backstroke (1:04:06) and 500 freestyle (5:29:73).

Devin McCaffrey obliterated the old record in the 200 freestyle by three seconds, finishing in 1:45:28.

Junior diver Amanda Maser has increased her degree of difficulty, Hernon said, and is on track to repeat as district champion.
