Mitchell swimmer Devin McCaffrey has committed to LSU, Mustangs coach Scott Hernon confirmed Friday via email.
Ohio State, Missouri, N.C. State and West Virginia were among the other programs recruiting McCaffrey.
The star senior was the Times’ North Suncoast swimmer of the year last fall. He won gold medals at state in the 100 butterfly (49:10) and 100 breaststroke (56:97) last season to become Pasco County’s first swimmer to win multiple state titles at one meet.
At last week’s Sunshine Athletic Conference meet, he broke conference records in both of those events. He's been one of the state's top swimmers since middle school.
Verbal commitments are non-binding until recruits sign national letters of intent.
