Mitchell senior guard Jake Driscoll is out until at least February with a broken left forearm, Mustangs coach Jared St. Charles confirmed Tuesday.
The 6-foot sharpshooter broke both bones in his arm during a non-basketball fall earlier this month. St. Charles said Driscoll had surgery to insert screws and a plate into his arm and that the Mustangs’ top player will miss the rest of the regular season. The team will reevaluate his status in February, and Driscoll could return for the playoffs.
“Once February gets here, we will see where he is at with the forearm,” St. Charles said.
Driscoll, a Division I prospect, missed a large chunk of last season with an illness but remains one of the North Suncoast’s top players. He averaged 27.1 points per game and shot 71 percent from the field before his injury.
He scored his 1,000th career point earlier this season during a 51-point explosion against Wiregrass Ranch.
