Mitchell senior infielder Joe Koehler has committed to Mercer University, according to Mustangs coach Scot Wilcox.

During his junior season at Mitchell, Koehler batted .448 with 30 RBIs and five home runs. He led the Mustangs in runs (46), doubles (14), walks (30) and stolen bases (18).

Koehler helped Mitchell capture its second district title in school history. The Mustangs also won their first postseason game in 2011 after beating Land O'Lakes 11-10.

Koehler was a St. Petersburg Times' first-team all-North Suncoast selection following the 2011 season.

Mercer University is a Division I-A school playing in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
