Nature Coast has hired Emily Gore as its new volleyball coach.

Gore, who coached Central last season, was first hired for a physical education position, then as the volleyball coach. She replaces Dan Murphy, who stepped aside last year to focus on his business, Murphy's Market in Spring Hill.

Murphy's teams won a pair of district titles and earned three playoff berths. Gore also is one of three internal applicants for the girls basketball vacancy.

Sharks athletic director Kristen Peeples said the search for a girls basketball coach is ongoing, and the position was posted externally. That position opened after Travis Lamle was removed following a county investigation.

"She comes with experience," Peeples said of Gore. "She'll do a good job. She knows the game. We feel we'll be able to pick up where Dan Murphy left off."
