Nature Coast has named a new football coach, the school announced Friday night.

Justin Worden, a teacher and defensive coordinator at Oak Ridge in Orlando, will take the reins of a Sharks program that last made the playoffs in 2009.

"We feel like his philosophy and our philosophy match," Nature Coast athletic director Kristin Peeples said. "We were looking for somebody young, energetic - somebody that had high expectations of our kids both in the classroom and on the field."

Charles Liggett resigned in November after a 6-4 season, saying it was time for him to move on. Liggett was with the Sharks for 10 years and spent three of them as head coach.

Peeples said Worden's experience coaching on both offense and defense spells an optimistic future for the Sharks. Oak Ridge finished 8-4 this past season, falling in the Class 7A region semifinals to Neptune Beach Fletcher.

"We want to win, just like everybody else, but we also want them to learn life lessons on and off the field," Peeples said. "We feel like he'll teach them."
