Nature Coast wide receiver prospect Ja'Juan Story, honoring an oral commitment he gave to the University of Florida back in June of 2010, signed with the Gators.
Story said he wrestled with the decision between Ohio State and Florida over the last couple of weeks, so much so that he was up late into the night on Monday trying to make up his mind. Even as he strolled into the Sharks weight room, Story, wearing a Troy Aikman throwback jersey, still wasn't 100% sure where he would sign.
He sat down, looked over letters-of-intent from both schools, pushed the papers from Ohio State to the side and inked his intent with the Gators.
"Just 20 minutes ago, I was talking about going to Ohio State," said Story, adding that he didn't finalize the decision in his head until he sat down to put pen to paper.
Story initially committed to Florida in June but had second thoughts when Gators head coach Urban Meyer retired on December 8 and assistant head coach Dan McCarney, who recruited Story, took the head coaching job at North Texas.
Story stayed committed to Florida but also took official visits to Oregon and Ohio State. In the weeks leading up to Signing Day, he narrowed down his decision to the Gators and the Buckeyes.
"It all came down to what school fit me best, where I felt most comfortable," Story said. "What coaches I felt had my best interests not only with football but as a young man. At Florida's where I felt most comfortable."
As a senior playing quarterback at Nature Coast, Story completed 33-of-60 passes for 427 yards and three touchdowns while also carrying 99 times for 847 yards and 12 touchdowns. He caught seven passes for 123 yards and two more scores.
Story is the 43rd ranked recruit nationally and the sixth-best wide receiver prospect according to ESPN.
