Newsome senior defensive end Shawn Boone has committed to play at Furman, Wolves coach Kenneth Hiscock said Friday morning.
Just 11 days ago, Boone received a scholarship offer from Furman, his first one. Hiscock said Furman head coach Bobby Lamb made an in-house visit with Boone and his mother this week and were impressed enough to commit.
"Both of them are excited and appreciative of the opportunity," Hiscock said in a text message Friday morning.
The 6-foot-3, 230 pound Boone was a three-year starter for the Wolves as well as a team co-captain.
He was a defensive force for Newsome, making 54 tackles and 3 sacks with 3 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.
