Newsome golf standout Tyler Bakich has orally committed to Florida State, the Wolves junior announced Sunday via Twitter.

Bakich is one of Tampa Bay’s top golf talents. As a sophomore last fall, he finished fourth overall for Newsome, which placed third as a team. He had the best round at state – a 5-under 67 – on the event’s second day and earned first-team all-county honors.

He hasn’t dropped a bit this season. Bakich had the second-best round at last week’s region tournament with a 68 to help Newsome earn its fourth consecutive trip to state. He was the individual medalist at the district tournament with a 2-under 69.

His family has strong ties to FSU. Bakich’s late mother, former LPGA pro Colleen Walker, is in the school’s hall of fame and was a two-time MVP for the Seminoles.

Oral commitments are non-binding until recruits sign letters of intent during their senior year.
