Baseball super 7
Records through Wednesday.
1. Hernando (16-2, 11-0): Kyle Kilbourne has allowed just one earned run in his past three starts, all complete-game wins including back-to-back shutouts his last two, as Hernando is back on the winning track.
2. Wiregrass Ranch (13-4, 5-2): Leadoff hitter Alex Fernandez has seven RBIs in his past two games, and the Bulls’ bats have come alive during its current three-game win streak.
3. River Ridge (12-4, 9-2): Behind Jason Heinrich, who has a 10-game hitting streak and won his past six starts, the Royal Knights have won seven straight against Tampa Bay competition and taken over first in Class 5A-8.
4. Wesley Chapel (14-5, 8-4): The last seven teams the Wildcats have played are a combined 30 games under .500, but they have beaten them all and boast the longest win streak on the North Suncoast.
5. Bishop McLaughlin (11-7, 4-3): The Hurricanes hadn’t scored in double figures all season, until doing so in its last two, both wins.
6. Central (12-8, 6-5): Since winning the Pasco-Hernando Classic spring break tournament, the Bears have stumbled in losses to Bishop McLaughlin, Nature Coast and Hernando.
7. Pasco (12-6, 7-4): The Pirates have had trouble getting the Ws because they aren’t playing well against teams who start with W. In 5 games against Weeki Wachee, Wesley Chapel and Wiregrass, Pasco has given up 42 runs. In all 13 other games, just 55.
