Wiregrass Ranch coaches wanted their cross country teams to get a test run at Lecanto, the site of this year’s regional meet.

The results Saturday were promising.

The Bulls came away with two victories in the Lecanto Invitational.

“It’s as challenging of an on-campus course as there is in the area,” Bulls coach Chris Loth said, “and the boys should definitely have a comfort level with it going into November.”

Sam Hippely (16:46) and Ermias Bireda (16:51) finished first and second for the boys to lead Wiregrass to the win. Tyler Mattera and David Hill finished fourth and fifth overall for the Bulls, who finished 25 points ahead of Nature Coast.

Tyler Moore (17:38) led the Sharks with a sixth-place finish, just ahead of Cody VanNatter.

Wiregrass’ girls also placed first, 47 points ahead of Bishop Moore. Nikita Shah led the Bulls with a second-place finish (19:43). Elise Cedre finished fourth, and Chelsea Davis was ninth.

Springstead freshman Tiana Newton led the sixth-place Eagles by finishing seventh (21:26). Teammate Ty’Rzhonza Harris was 11th.

Gulf swept the West Pasco Invite. Its girls placed 26 points better than No. 2 Mitchell, and its boys were 15 points ahead of the runner-up Mustangs.

Kari Grippo (17:24) breezed to a top finish for the Buccaneers’ girls, followed by Mitchell’s Claudia Cancello, Gulf’s Mia Savino and Ridgewood’s Amy Muller. Katie Buckman of Gulf completed the top five.

Nick Buliga led Gulf with a third-place finish (16:48), while teammates Mike Keller and Dustin Demattia were ninth and 10th.

Anclote’s Argishti Gazari (16:01) and Christopher Sorrick (16:27) placed first and second.

At the Seffner Christian Open, Land O’Lakes’ boys placed first with a 30-point win over Mount Dora Bible School.

Travis Nichols won the race for the Gators (16:46), and teammates Tyler Stahl (fourth) and Jake Poore (10th) also had strong showings.
