All games at 7:30 p.m. Friday unless noted

South Sumter (0-2) at Pasco (1-0)
The Pirates went into last year’s game with plenty to prove even if no one in the locker room realized it. South Sumter came out and did what it does to most opponents, thrashing Pasco and giving coach Tom McHugh plenty of firepower to inspire Pasco to its third consecutive district title. McHugh would prefer not to have to inspire his team with another rallying cry, so look for the Pirates to come out tough.

Crystal River (2-0) vs. Nature Coast (2-0)
The Sharks host Crystal River, which has won back-to-back games including eking out a 13-12 victory at Central last week. The Pirates are led by Pasco transfer Willie Jackson, whose attempt to transfer to Nature Coast was blocked by the Florida High School Athletic Association. Crystal River has benefitted with Jackson carrying a whopping 53 times for 380 yards and four touchdowns in two games.

Gulf (2-0) vs. Ridgewood (0-2)
Did anyone on the North Suncoast believe the Buccaneers would have a shot to start the season 3-0 after the resignation of Jay Fulmer less than a week before the opener? Interim coach Ken Hollar has held the locker room together and could end up making a strong case to retain the head coaching title if Gulf can keep winning.
