Joey Knight was at USF on Saturday to cover some of the area’s top track teams. Here’s a quick roundup of some other meets from last week.
Wiregrass Ranch swept the Warrior-Eagle Invitational at Calvary Christian on Thursday. The boys edged St. Petersburg Catholic 82-76, and the girls blew out the field with a 61-point victory over runner-up Berkeley Prep.
Bulls sprinter A.J. Blount placed second in the 100 meters (13.39 seconds), and teammate Marissa Davis took third in the 300 hurdles (50.54).
Wiregrass' 4x100 relay team (Hannah Eder, Blount, Ashlynn Deruzzo and Stephanie Ryan) was second, while its4x800 team (Nikita Shah, Alex Diepholz, Elsie Cedre and Savannah Goode) claimed gold. Eder added a first-place finish in the triple jump and took second in the long jump. Alisha Henry won the pole vault for the Bulls - two spots ahead of teammate Casey Chittey - and Patricia Magwood won the shot put and took second in the discus.
Andrea Mauger was a standout performer for Academy at the Lakes with a third-place finish in the discus.
Ermias Bireda won the boys 1,600 meters and joined Tyler Mattera, David Hill and Patrick Hill on the winning 4x800 relay team. Bishop McLaughlin’s Evan Barhonovich won the discus (132-3).
Central’s boys team won Friday’s meet at Tavares by 11 points over East Ridge. The top performer was Zach Hall, who won the 800, 1600 and 3200 meters. The 4x400 relay team of Quadavis Battle, Andre Crespo, Austin Utter and John Anderson also claimed gold.
Christianna Money took first in the 100 meter girls hurdles (18.33 seconds) and 300 hurdles (50.65). Teammate Samantha Bishop won the shot put (30-5).
