Volleyball: North Suncoast Super 7

1. Mitchell (11-3): Two defeats in last week’s Tampa Catholic tournament don’t dampen the Mustangs’ season. Senior Jessika Hester looks like the county’s top player so far.

2. Fivay (11-2): Tuesday’s back-and-forth, five-game victory over Anclote was an important win for the Falcons, who remain contenders in a balanced Class 5A, District 8.

3. Ridgewood (9-1): The Rams are the only unbeaten team in 5A-8, thanks to five players with at least 10 aces. Next week’s showdown with Anclote will be pivotal.

4. Wiregrass Ranch (9-4): The Bulls earned one of their biggest wins of the season by knocking off Fivay last week. Grace Olsen and Teddi Wright are both having all-county caliber seasons.

5. Anclote (9-5): Tuesday’s loss to Fivay ended Anclote’s run of three consecutive victories. Mia Lockhart and the Sharks will look to begin a new streak next week.

6. Springstead (5-2): Hernando County’s top team will face some good challenges at Fivay’s tournament this weekend. A strong showing there will prove the Eagles’ mettle.

7. River Ridge (5-4): The Royal Knights have lost three consecutive matches against tough competition — Mitchell, Tarpon Springs and Ridgewood. They’ll have a chance to rebound next week before a rematch with the Mustangs.
