North Suncoast weekend roundup

Anclote’s volleyball team captured its first tournament championship in program history over the weekend. The Sharks dropped only one set all weekend at the Lake Highland/Winter Park Volleyball Showcase in Orlando.

Anclote (10-2) rallied from seven points down in the third set of the semifinals and knocked off West Boca 25-22, 27-25 in the final.

Bishop McLaughlin also won its tournament over the weekend, claiming the title of its fourth annual event ahead of runner-up Seven Rivers and third-place Tampa HEAT. Led by Alyssa Mathis and Aileen Hnatiuk, the Hurricanes improved to 7-1 heading into Tuesday’s match against Sunlake.

In cross country, Land O’Lakes senior Tyler Stahl finished fourth in a tough field at the University of Florida’s Mountain Dew Invitational (15:55.60). Teammate Travis Nichols also had a strong result, finishing eighth (16:01.64), and Jake Poore was 16th (16:24.88). The Gators were sixth as a team.
