Both the Northside Christian and Indian Rocks Christian volleyball teams had so-so performances this weekend at the Orlando Volleyball Academy Invitational at the Orlando Sports Center.

Northside Christian, with senior Kayla Walton, above, finished eighth out of 16 teams in the Premier Division after going 2-3. The Mustangs lost a close three-game match to defending Class 3A state champion Lake Highland Prep 22-25, 25-6, 15-13 before defeating Boone 26-24, 23-25, 20-18 and Class 6A state runner-up Royal Palm Beach 25-8, 25-11 to go 2-1 in pool play. In bracket play, the Mustangs lost to Spanish River 25-22, 25-14 and Holy Trinity 25-12, 25-19 to place fourth in the silver bracket, eighth overall.

Indian Rocks Christian took seventh out of 16 Elite Division teams with a 2-3 record. The Golden Eagles were 1-2 in pool play after a 25-20, 24-26, 15-12 loss to Fernandina Beach, a 26-24, 17-25, 15-13 win over Lakeland and a 18-25, 25-20, 15-9 loss to Orangewood Christian. In the silver bracket, IRC was beaten by Deland 25-22, 25-13 but defeated Pine Crest 20-25, 25-20, 15-4 for third place in the bracket, seventh overall.
