Northside Christian is moving quickly to find a football coach and could hire one by April 19 according to athletic director Raul Hernandez.
The Mustangs are looking for a replacement for Andre Dobson, who left after four seasons to become the coach at Lakeland Victory Christian.
Hernandez said the school is conducting phone interviews with four candidates this week and will have on-campus interviews the following week.
“We’ve reached out to a few people, and done a few things informally so far,” Hernandez said. “We would ideally like to have someone in place by the time spring practice begins.”
The candidates are mostly local and Hernandez said there is a strong possibility the new hire will be someone from the area. Still, Hernandez said he is going to talk to the remaining assistants to see if they would be willing to do spring practice if a coach is not hired before May.
“I want to make sure they are comfortable with that situation,” Hernandez said of the assistants. “I want to make sure we have the right coach in place, and I don’t want a timeline to force us to rushing in hiring someone.”
Northside is coming off a 1-9 season in which it struggled with numbers. The Mustangs play at Ocoee Central Florida Christian on May 19 in their spring game.
