Chamberlain 1,700-yard rusher Xavier Johnson, who entered spring drills with one offer (from UMass), is exiting with a half-dozen.
First-year Chiefs coach D.J. Mayo said Johnson (5-foot-10, 185 pounds) has picked up additional offers from Florida A&M, Middle Tennessee, Ohio, Toledo and South Alabama. Johnson capped his abbreviated spring -- he was a 200-meter state qualifier in track -- with 73 rushing yards and three short TD runs in a one-half, 30-6 romp of Blake in last Thursday's jamboree.
Additionally, Mayo announced that two-way standout Jermaine Gilyard (5-10, 190) has picked up offers from FAMU, Toledo, Indiana and Ball State. Gilyard had a team-best four interceptions as well as 70 tackles and eight receptions last season.
Fellow Chiefs DB/WR Ronnie Scott also got a FAMU offer, Mayo announced.
