Osceola baseball coach Kevin Mullins, who led the Warriors to playoff appearances the past two seasons, stepped down because of health reasons, athletic director Christina Ouellet said.
"There were some health issues he had last year, so this was something we felt was coming," Ouellet said of Mullins' resignation. "I think it was something he wanted to do before the start of the season."
Ouellet said Mullins made the decision before the holiday break. In four seasons, Mullins showed steady progress with the program. In 2009, Osceola won its district and made the playoffs for the first time since 2003. The Warriors won another district title last season and lost to eventual state finalist Jesuit in the first round.
"We're very grateful for the job Kevin did with the program and how far he had taken the team," Ouellet said.
Interviews were conducted this past week and a coach should be named within the next two weeks, Ouellet said. Whoever gets the job will have a veteran team, led by pitcher/outfielder Taylor Layner, who has already signed with Florida State.
