Pasco boys basketball coach Norman Jackson resigned from that position this week to become a dean in Polk County, Jackson said Wednesday morning.

Jackson put in his letter of resignation Monday, and the Pirates posted the job online this morning.

"I had a great opportunity there," said Jackson, who took over as head coach in August 2009. "I think that whoever takes over the program, if they keep putting in the work, the program will eventually rebuild itself to where it once was. The kids in that community seem to have embraced basketball since I've been there, and the kids are working hard."

Jackson, 39, led the Pirates to a 12-30 record during his tenure.

Pasco athletic director Jim Ward could not immediately be reached for comment.
