Pasco DB Jamie Byrd picked up his first official scholarship offer Thursday from Purdue. The call came directly to Pirates coach Tom McHugh, who in turn had Byrd call a Purdue coach.
How did Byrd respond to the news?
"He barely smiles ever," McHugh said. "He came in and smiled."
There is a connection with the Boilermakers with former Pirate Josh Johnson already on the roster.
Byrd earned Times first-team all-Suncoast honors, was the Times all-North Suncoast Defensive Player of the Year and was named a maxpreps.com junior All-American. Byrd led the Pirates with 129 tackles, six sacks and four fumble recoveries.
