Pasco DB Jamie Byrd attended the Football University Camp in Orlando last weekend and made a solid enough impression to earn a free trip to New York this summer for a chance to compete for a spot in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder split time between linebacker and defensive back. Pasco coach Tom McHugh said he'll likely be looked at as a safety though his one-on-one coverage has improved, especially after learning some techniques at the camp.

Byrd, a rising senior, has already been to a junior invitational at Georgia and has interest from a handful of schools including USF. The Bulls invited Byrd down last weekend, but the timing conflicted with the camp.

Byrd earned Times first-team all-Suncoast honors, was the Times all-North Suncoast Defensive Player of the Year and was named a maxpreps.com junior All-American.

Byrd led the Pirates with 129 tackles, six sacks and four fumble recoveries.
