Wiregrass Ranch 14, Weeki Wachee 1 (five innings)

Pitchers of the day
Springstead right-hander Ryan Keith went the distance, striking out six, walking three and surrendering only one earned run and four hits. He also hit four batters in his first start since coming back from an Achilles injury against Osceola late last month. …Zephyrhills right-hander Riley McClellan pitched well in 3 1/3 innings before being relieved due to control issues. He struck out five and gave up only two hits and two earned runs. …Wiregrass Ranch right-hander Sean Cunius gave up four hits, no earned runs, with five strikeouts and two walks before being relieved for the final frame by Zach Crissey.

Hitters of the day
Springstead leadoff hitter Kyle Cotilletta went 3-for-4 with a stolen base, three runs scored and two RBIs. Already the Eagles’ leader in batting average, the rightfielder also walked once to reach base a game-high four times. …Zephyrhills leadoff man Josh Fiallo collected two of his team’s four base hits against Keith. The leftfielder’s 2-for-4 effort also included the lone run to cross the plate for the Bulldogs. …Wiregrass Ranch shortstop Michael Campoamor started the scoring for the Bulls in the first inning with a two-run homer over the leftfield fence. He finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored, four RBIs and a triple.

Defensive gems of the day
Springstead first baseman Noah Siem saved multiple errors on the infield by digging the ball out of the dirt to record the out. …With runners on first and second and only one out in the top of the third, Wiregrass had a chance to break open the game. Weeki Wachee second baseman Derek Wood caught a line drive off the bat of Tyler Wood and doubled off the runner at second.

Dugout chatter
“I got cleated in the game against Osceola a few weeks back, and I’ve been in and out of the bullpen since then. I was a little tentative early (Tuesday night), worried about my stride (off the mound), but once I got comfortable, I feel like I really settled down.” — Springstead’s Keith
