Former Shorecrest head football coach and current Canterbury assistant coach Phil Hayford was recently selected to enter the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Hayford will be officially inducted on Jan. 12.

Hayford was at Shorecrest for 33 years and compiled a 191-132 record. He ranks second in Pinellas County for overall wins, five shy of former Northeast coach Jerry Austin. Hayford led Shorecrest to playoff appearances 15 times.

Hayford was replaced by Dave Moore after the 2011 season. Prior to the spring, Hayford agreed to become Canterbury’s defensive coordinator under head coach Bill Jones.

The FACA induction ceremony was held at the Sheraton Sand Key on Clearwater Beach on July 21.
