Donning a Mercer University sweatshirt over a Mercer t-shirt, Palm Harbor University senior outside hitter Cassie Roy signed a letter of intent with the Bears in front of her parents, teammates and PHU coach Tara Kuk on Thursday.

Roy orally committed to Mercer in April after stopping by the campus for a visit on her way to a national qualifying tournament in Atlanta for her club team. Roy cited her connection with Bears coach Noelle Rooke as the biggest factor in her decision to play at Mercer.

"I just fell in love with the coach," she said.

Roy also received interest from North Florida, Jacksonville and Boston College but was overwhelmingly swayed by her visit to Mercer, which happened to be the only school she visited.

"It was the perfect fit," said Roy, who was a Times first team all county selection last season for the Hurricanes.

Mercer, located in Macon, Georgia, is a Division I school playing in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
