Pinellas: Boys state semifinal soccer capsules

Boys soccer state semifinals
Who: Palm Harbor University (17-1-4) at Jacksonville Mandarin (23-3-3)
When: 7 p.m. Friday
At stake: Winner will play Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. at USF for the Class 5A state title
Notes: PHU has not given up a regulation goal since the PCAC final against St. Petersburg, a span of five games. The defense is led by Robert Sennabaum, Spencer Yost, Tyler Kaminski and Jesse Caron. …Goalkeeper Josh Preisig missed the region final with an ankle sprain and is day to day. …Mandarin has outscored region opponents 11-2, including a 5-1 win over Lake Howell in the final. …The Mustangs lost in the Class 6A region semifinals last season.
They said it: “We’re ready. We know that any team we play hasn’t faced a team like us. We’re not intimidated by their results or the goal differentials. Playing on their field in a state semifinal is going to be the toughest thing for us, actually.’’ — PHU coach Alex Delgado

Who: Hialeah American (22-2-2) at Seminole (19-2-2)
When: 7 p.m. Friday
At stake: Winner will play Feb. 18 at 1:30 p.m. at USF for the Class 4A state final
Notes: Seminole paid a price for its 3-0 win over Naples Gulf Coast on Tuesday. Nathan Yeager has a leg injury, Yann Cerf and Dean Favetta each have hip injuries, Garrett Bocon has an injured shoulder and Tarik Salkicic has a sore back. All will be evaluated before Friday’s game. …Seminole has outscored opponents 16-1 in three region games. …American made its last semifinal appearance in 2006. Seminole was in the state final in 2010. …There is a district final basketball game and softball game at Seminole at the same time Friday night, so parking will be at a premium.
They said it: “Our guys are just ham and eggers. We’ve got one big-time player (Salkicic) and then just a bunch of guys who play hard and do their job. I’m very proud of them this season.’’ — Seminole coach Rick Masi
