I tease, I tease.
But Crawford did take note of the conversation about this week's Grab Bag, which is in the comments here, about sacks and the debate over who had more, Northeast junior Auggie Sanchez or his Florida-commitment and star Jeremi Powell. (Let the debate for Pinellas County Defensive Player of the Year begin......NOW!)
Northeast has Sanchez with 18.5 sacks, and the Vikings provided a game-by-game breakdown. Which prompted some to wonder: what about Powell?
According to Crawford, Powell has 14 sacks. The future Gator also has 24 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, two recoveries, three pass break-ups, 21 quarterback pressures and two blocked kicks.
(Oh, and let's not forget Powell is pretty darned good on offense, too: 40 rushes for 405 yards, 10 pass catches for 244 and 11 touchdowns).
And while we're taking sacks, let's not forget Countryside's Mike Love, who has 14.5.
I think all three guys are in the discussion for Defensive Player of the Year. You?
FOUR FINAL THINGS
1. Thanks to Crawford for the stats.
2. Who would have ever thought we'd be debating sacks without including Lakewood's Dante Fowler?
3. Oh, and by the way, Joey Yanchunis of St. Petersburg Catholic was credited by the Barons staff with 36 sacks in 2004.
4. That's right: 36.
