Plant City junior quarterback Bennie Coney, one of the bay area's top recruits in the Class of 2012, has received an oral offer from Florida State, Raiders coach Wayne Ward said Monday.
Coney received the offer Saturday while attending the Seminoles' home game against Wake Forest, Ward said.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Coney also owns offers from Auburn, Boston College, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, USF and Texas Tech.
Ward benched Coney for last week's 24-21 loss to Newsome for am undisclosed violation of team rules, but he is expected to return in this week's non-district home game against Chamberlain.
Coney, who is on the ESPN U 150 Class of 2012 watch list, has thrown for 573 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions this season, and has also run for 177 yards (8.4 yards per carry) and three touchdowns.
Plant RB/DE James Wilder Jr., one of the nation's top senior recruits, verbally committed to the Seminoles in August.
