Plant City softball coach Kouveras moving on

Plant City softball coach Heidi Kouveras, who led the Raiders to the playoffs in six of her nine seasons, told the Times today she has resigned to relocate to northern Alabama.

Kouveras, whose family moved to Huntsville four years ago, has taken a job at Shades Valley High in Irondale, Ala.

"I have an 8-year-old nephew who I miss very much," Kouveras said in a text message to the Times. "I'm excited for a change (and being) close to my family again, but definitely very sad to leave my team."

A 1998 Bloomingdale graduate, Kouveras led the Raiders to the playoffs each of the last three seasons. Each of her last four teams won at least 17 games.

Her best team, the 2011 squad led by current UCF pitcher Mackenzie Audas, finished 23-7 and came within a game of reaching the Class 5A final four. Her final team finished 17-6, falling to eventual 7A state runner-up Bartow in the region quarterfinals.
