Plant senior setter Becca Howard has committed to play collegiately at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, Panthers coach Leanna Taylor said Monday.

Howard, a Times All-Hillsborough County first-team selection, was a two-year starter for the Panthers, who won their fourth straight state title this past fall. Howard averaged 10.9 assists a game and tallied 48 assists in Plant's Class 6A state title match. Howard also received Under Armour All-American honorable mention honors following the season.

Howard was also being recruited by Syracuse, George Washington and American, but UAB offered a fully paid scholarship and the opportunity to contribute right away, Taylor said.

The Blazers were 17-16 this past season, but have made the NCAA Tournament twice in the past four years. They've won at least 20 games in three of the last four seasons.
