Plant WR Austin Aikens chooses Western Kentucky

With National Signing Day less than 24 hours away, Plant WR Austin Aikens has committed to Western Kentucky, a Division-I FBS school in the Sun Belt Conference, according to coach Robert Weiner.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Aikens was the Panthers' leading receiver, hauling in 37 catches for 704 yards and a team-high 11 touchdowns as Plant (14-1) won the first Class 8A state championship in December. His biggest game came in the first round of the playoffs, as he caught seven passes for 136 yards and four touchdowns in a 54-21 rout of Orlando Boone.

Aikens was also a member of the Times’ second-team all-Hillsborough County team and will follow a well-worn path from the Sunshine State to Bowling Green, Ky.--31current players on the Hilltoppers' roster hail from the state of Florida.

Aikens, considered one of the area’s underrated recruits, is the sixth Panther to announce his school choice and will sign tomorrow along with DB Antonio Crawford (Miami), S Drew Madhu (Stanford), OL Nathan Shienle (Tulane), DB Keenan Stalls (Kent State) and DL Patrick Wright (Washington and Lee). Several other Plant players are expected to announce their decisions tomorrow as well. Aikens will follow a well-worn path from the Sunshine State 31
