Plant WR Austin Aikens day to day with knee injury

The status of Plant senior Austin Aikens, the Panthers' leading receiver, for Saturday's Class 8A state title game against Miramar is uncertain.

Aikens suffered a bruised PCL in his left knee while trying to make a diving sideline catch in Friday's 26-7 state semifinal win over Neptune Beach Fletcher. An MRI exam over the weekend was negative and Aikens is considered day-to-day, coach Robert Weiner said.

"A lot will depend on how the swelling goes down in the next few days," Weiner said.

Aikens, a three-star prospect who has scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Iowa, Missouri and Vanderbilt, is the Panthers' top vertical receiving threat. He leads Plant with 37 receptions, 704 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has a pair of 100-yard receiving games this postseason, including a season-high seven-catch, 136-yard, four-touchdown effort in Plant's 54-21 win over Orlando Boone in the region quarterfinals.
