PINELLAS PARK — After banging heads for two quarters with some strong physical play, Dunedin and Pinellas Park finally put together a scoring drive apiece in the fourth quarter to finish Friday night stalemated at 6-6 in their preseason classic.
While the junior varsity squads provided most of the excitement — Pinellas Park led 34-6 after one quarter before the varsity took over — coaches Max Smith and Kenny Crawford were pleased their big boys gutted out a hard-hitting tie.
Tramaine Batten scored from 2 yards with five minutes left to make it 6-0, and the Patriots answered on a Taron Williams to Brandon Jones pass with 34 seconds left. Both extra point kicks were unsuccessful.
Running back Tahrelle Mosley led the Patriots with 80 yards on 16 carries.
Dunedin’s three-headed attack of Batten, Shaquille Dixon and Stancio Howard moved the ball, but in little chunks, unable to break any big plays but combining for 100 yards.
Dunedin’s defense, led by interceptions from Austin Ladd and Jordan Williams, held Pinellas Park without a completion until the last two plays of the game, the last one the tying touchdown pass.
