WEEKI WACHEE — Weeki Wachee shut out Lecanto for a half in the annual Fall Classic, but couldn’t cash in on opportunities on Lecanto’s side of the field. And a missed extra point turned out to be the difference, as Lecanto scored two touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters at the Hornets’ Nest.

Drive of the game: The key drive for the Hornets was a nine-play, 80-yard drive that culminated when Alec Cromie hit Eli Mendoza with a 14-yard touchdown strike on fourth and 10 to put the Hornets up 12-7. But Lecanto responded, as Antonio Crumbley set up Travis McGee’s 1-yard touchdown with 9:54 left that turned out to be the game winner.

Play of the game: Cromie connected on two crucial fourth downs for the go-ahead score in the third. The first was on fourth and 13 to Dayonta Patterson, who made a beautiful catch. The second was the touchdown to Mendoza.

Stars of the game: Hornets running back Shawn O’Gorman rushed 17 times for 151 yards and a touchdown. Weeki Wachee used an efficient running attack and short passes on the opening drive to go 57 yards on nine plays for the O’Gorman 1-yard touchdown run.
