SEMINOLE — It wasn’t pretty, but Seminole outlasted Indian Rocks Christian 16-14 in a game that had a combined nine turnovers.
The Warhawks took advantage of two fumbles and an interception within the 30-yard line as senior running backs Teddy Willis and Trevor Sand each rushed for a touchdown and Ryan Holland added a 32-yard field goal.
“There’s a different attitude and spirit about this team,” Seminole coach Sam Roper said. “The seniors as a collective group have taken it upon themselves to motivate the rest of the guys, and we have a good feeling heading into the regular season.”
Coming off a 1-9 campaign in 2009, the Warhawks will lean on Willis and Sand, who combined for 193 yards on 23 carries.
After Holland’s field goal with two minutes left in the first quarter, Sand gave the Warhawks a 10-0 lead after the first of four fumbles by the Golden Eagles when the 5-foot-11, 200-pound running back scampered 20 yards.
Golden Eagles senior running back J.L. Monson had 70 yards on 15 carries.
