LUTZ — Sunlake discovered Friday night that given some time and hard work, improvements can be made. In a 20-9 winning effort, the Warriors offense managed to pile drive the Sunlake Seahawks into the ground thanks to the combined effort of starting quarterback senior Quentin Poteralski and wide receivers senior Kezio Snelling and junior Justin Moffatt. Despite the score, Steinbrenner dominated Sunlake, holding it to only three points until the remaining two minutes.

Play of the game: At first, it seemed it would be a normal Steinbrenner football game with a mediocre offense and strong, effective defense. But as time went on, and the defense did what it does best — create offensive opportunities — the Warriors scraped together a big 36-yard touchdown by throwing a deep pass downfield to Snelling. And thanks to that clutch reception, Steinbrenner running back Jayquese Dantley was able to run the ball into the end zone without hesitation. The Warriors went ahead 7-3 and continued to drop end-zone passes and rushing touchdowns all night.

Stars of the game:  Steinbrenner diversified its points across the board. Poteralski threw for 173 yards on 17-of-23 attempts. But the quarterback was not alone as Snelling, Moffatt and Brett Bitter combined for 138 of those yards.

Final word: “We slowed down in the second half but the performance was great. I feel very confident outside of the pocket and my legs feel great when I’m scrambling.” — Poteralski
