TAMPA — Teams on opposite arcs collided at Abe Brown Stadium on Friday night in a preseason matchup. Middleton was riding high after a spring victory over rival Blake, while Strawberry Crest was still smarting from a drubbing by Armwood. The Chargers left Friday with a 33-0 win and the Tigers left with a stinging loss and several injured players.
Chargers quarterback Tristan Hyde was sharp as he completed 9 of 14 passes for 80 yards and two scores. His first pass was a strike to junior Clay Cullins that set the tone for the game. Hyde later found Joshua Hyde for a 17-yard score. Backup quarterback Alex Carswell threw a 55-yard sideline pass to senior DJ Trigg.
“It was definitely a big confidence boost, we’re getting what we know how to do,” Tristan Hyde said.
The Tigers’ Jaquan Brown’s 75-yard run in the first half after being lambasted on a kickoff return not 15 minutes earlier.
“It showed you can’t knock the pride out of us, we were still gonna play no matter how far down we were,” Brown said.
