TAMPA — Berkeley Prep went inside — again and again.

The Buccaneers (20-7) turned their Class 4A region quarterfinal against Arcadia DeSoto County (17-8) into a layup shooting drill as they rolled to an 82-49 victory Thursday night.

Senior Nelson Agholor poured in 24 points and 12 Berkeley Prep players scored as the Buccaneers (20-7) used their inside attack to overcome a sluggish start. Berkeley Prep scored 24 of its 33 field goals on layups, hit six treys and never looked back after a 16-0 second-quarter blitz wiped out a five-point deficit.

“We picked up the effort on defense,” Agholor said. “When we go in the paint, we’ve got a good chance to win the game. So that’s what we did; we attacked the rim.”

Berkeley Prep shot 50.7 percent from the field and scored 55 points in the second and third quarters combined. The Bucs led by as many as 36 points on Agholor’s dunk with four minutes remaining. Justin Gray added 12 points for Berkeley Prep.

“We’ve got a lot of guys making plays on this team,” Agholor said. “Early, the ball wasn’t falling. But we stayed aggressive throughout the game.”

The Bucs advance to play Tuesday against Avon Park, a 65-51 winner over Sarasota Booker.
