Tampa Catholic squandered a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter and saw its season end on the road with a 74-70 overtime loss to Avon Park in the Class 4A region quarterfinals.

“Kind of the story of our season,” TC coach Don Dziagwa said.

TC (15-13) led 55-42 going into the fourth quarter, but Avon Park chipped away at it. The Red Devils hit back-to-back 3-pointers that reignited the crowd and deflated TC. The Crusaders turned the ball over twice late in the fourth, leading to two Avon Park buckets and helping force overtime.

TC didn’t make a field goal in the extra session as the game slipped away.

“They just carried that momentum right into the overtime,” Dziagwa said.

The Crusaders missed 10 of their 20 free-throw attempts in the defeat.
Delaware signee Chivarsky Corbett led TC with 22 points. Thomas Dziagwa finished with 19 points, and Sam Harris scored 17.
