TARPON SPRINGS — If East Lake plays like it did in the first half Friday, the Eagles will be a tough out in the playoffs.

East Lake scored touchdowns on its first four drives and was up 31-0, too big of a lead in a 31-20 victory over Treasure Coast. East Lake (10-1) will be at home against Vero Beach in next Friday’s regional semifinal.

Pete DiNovo and Artavis Scott put on a show as the hosts took a 28-0 halftime lead. DiNovo was 17-of-20 for 237 yards in the first half; Scott caught eight passes for 140 yards.

The highlight-reel grab was a diving effort on a 38-yard touchdown to put the hosts up 21-0 early in the second quarter.

The Eagles mostly ran from there, so DiNovo ended up with 321 yards. Weston Fordham piled up 90 of East Lake’s 149 yards on the ground.

Treasure Coast had two touchdowns in the final four minutes, including a 39-yard fumble return by Devin Ferguson with 1:40 remaining. Ferguson also gave Vero its first score on an 80-yard catch-and-run.

“We’re still a young team, so we’re learning. You have to learn to keep your foot on the gas pedal,” East Lake coach Bob Hudson said.

East Lake zipped down the field on its two first-quarter drives. George Campbell set the tone on the first play, a 10-yard tackle for loss when Treasure Coast tried a double reverse. The Eagles took over around midfield, and in two minutes they scored on DiNovo’s 10-yard screen to Dylan Renaker.

Campbell had four total tackles for loss, one a sack. Devin Abraham added an interception and two big hits that broke up would-be completions.

Scott finished with 10 catches for 163 yards and Chris Depaolo had nine for 119. Carl Chisholm ran for 120 yards on 16 carries for the Titans (5-4).
