LAKELAND — A distracted Victory Christian fell to Seffner Christian 20-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 Tuesday in the Class A region quarterfinals.

Two Storm players were rear-ended by another car before school and cousins Jessica Morgan and Cayla Skeans lost their grandmother late in the afternoon.

“Keeping in mind the events of the day, my expectations were limited,” Victory coach Robin Sechrest said. “I’m proud. They fought hard and kept it competitive.”

It was the first time Victory (21-4) has faced Seffner (12-10) in Sechrest’s four years as coach.

Seffner Christian senior Laura Swartz finished with 35 kills and 18 service points. Victory’s Michelle King had 14 kills and six blocks.
Sechrest admitted the players were a little emotional.

“We were a little slow getting to balls we would’ve normally gotten to. Some were not 100 percent,” she said.
