The Honolulu Advertiser is reporting tonight that talented Plant WR Allen Sampson, a key member of two state championship squads, has committed to Hawaii.
"I know a lot of people go to Hawaii for the scenery and weather, but I fell in love with the program," Sampson told the paper.
Sampson, a two-year starter at Plant, also had offers from four Division I-AA programs -- Delaware, Georgia Southern, Murray State and Southern Illinois.
We first noted Hawaii’s interest two weeks ago.
He visited the school last weekend.
Last fall, the 5-foot-8, 160-pound Sampson had 39 catches for 671 yards and eight touchdowns -- all team receiving highs.
Hawaii, a Division I-A program, was 6-7 last year, 3-5 in the WAC, a conference that includes national power Boise State.
Word of this commitment came very late Monday night, but we’ll try to get some comments from Sampson on Tuesday.
