Ridgewood senior swimmer Joe Geschke, the Sunshine Athletic Conference 2010 swimmer of the year, has orally committed to Nova Southeastern University and will sign with the Sharks in April, according to Ridgewood swim coach Sue Vien.

As a senior, Geschke placed seventh in the 100-yard backstroke (54.27) and 11th in the 200 freestyle (1:44.90) at the Class 2A state meet in November.

"He's dedicated," Vien said. "He's in great shape all year long, physically and mentally. He's very versatile. He swims every stroke and swims them well."

Geschke, who also competes for the Tampa Bay Aquatics club, was an SAC all-conference first-team selection as well as a Times' first-team all-North Suncoast pick for the 200 free (1:47.75) and 100 back (55.80).

"(Nova Southeastern) will be able to do anything with him," Vien said. "Joey is so versatile. He's not a sprinter, but he'd be great to have in a relay. He has a high GPA and is a great student athlete."
