The Tampa Bay area is down to one five-star recruit, according to Rivals.com.
With a few harsh words, the analysts dropped Lakewood DE Dante Fowler down 22 spots to No. 35 in the Rivals 100 and downgraded him to a four-star prospect. The Rivals 100 ranks the 100 top recruits across the country.
Florida recruiting analyst Chris Nee explains why Fowler fell, including the fact that he was suspended for three games for arguing with his coaches after a film session, was out of shape when he returned and just generally lacked the effort and desire required of an elite recruit.
"Nobody that has watched him in action as a senior can justify that he deserves five-star status at this stage," Nee wrote. "He quit on plays that went away from him and regularly failed to combat the first effort put forth against him by blockers."
Fowler is currently committed to Florida State but was dressed in Gator colors in Gainseville this weekend while watching the Seminoles beat Florida.
Berkeley Prep athlete Nelson Agholor, the only five-star recruit from the area, is at No. 12 in the latest rankings. He currently has offers from 26 schools and has visited Notre Dame. Florida visited him at home this weekend.
