River Ridge C John Childs gets first D-I offer

River Ridge rising junior John Childs has picked up his first college basketball scholarship offer.

The class of 2014 prospect earned an offer from Jacksonville University, he said Wednesday in a text message.

Childs, a 6-foot-8 center, was academically ineligible for the Royal Knights at the start of last season but quickly became one of the North Suncoast's top prospects. He earned honorable mention all-Sunshine Athletic Conference honors this winter. Against Land O'Lakes in the Class 6A, DIstrict 10 semifinals, he recorded a triple double:  20 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks.
