River Ridge athletic director Jack Homko said today that it appeared unlikely that the school would have a new head football coach in place before the winter break.
"I don't see us hiring someone before the holidays," Homko said. "We want to take it slow and thoroughly evaluate the people that have applied."
Homko said that about "16 or 17" applicants have applied for the job, which closed Monday at 3 p.m. He added that he didn't have names or specifics about the applicants because he hadn't had a chance to sit down and look over the applications.
"By next week, I should be able to at least narrow it down to the people that we're going to interview," Homko said.
Tim Stevens was fired after five seasons as head football coach at River Ridge. He failed to deliver a winning season and compiled a 9-41 record.
Stevens was let go on November 19 following a 2-8 record in 2010.
