Mon. March 7, 2011 | Bryan Burns

River Ridge ace Lakyn Shull has offers from Wisconsin, Iowa, Oregon, Loyola Marymount, La Salle, George Washington and Brown, but the senior right hander has her sights set on Furman University in Greenville, S.C.

Shull anticipates committing to the Paladins on her official visit to Furman this weekend.

“I haven’t committed because I haven’t been on campus, but I’ve done my research and I’m in love,” she said.

The 6-foot Shull cited distance as a major factor in where she ultimately decides to go to take her softball talents.

“I really decided I want to go out of state but be able to come home for those week-long breaks that we have,” she said.

Shull was a St. Petersburg Times’ first team all-North Suncoast selection in 2010 after going 15-3 with a 1.27 ERA. As a senior, Shull is 5-1 with a 0.22 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 39.1 innings pitched. She is also batting .385 with four doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs.

Furman is a Division-I school playing in the Southern Conference.
