Hillary Hahmann, one of the area’s elite swimmers, has committed to Alabama and will sign a letter-of-intent with the program in November.

“I chose Alabama because it has everything I'm looking for in a school and a swim team,” Hahmann said in an email. “I loved the way the team felt like a family, and the school really felt like home.”

Hahmann chose the Crimson Tide over South Carolina and George Washington. She took officials visits to each school before making her decision.

Hahmann, who carries a 5.76 GPA, also had visit invites from Brown, Georgia Southern, Kansas, Washington State and Wyoming.

In college, Hahmann will concentrate on the 500 freestyle, 1,000 free and mile free.

Last season, she finished 10th in the state in the 500 free and was a member of Plant’s 200 free relay squad that won gold at the Class 2A meet in Orlando.

That helped Plant place third in the team standings.
