A string of accolades, representing achievement in both athletics and the arts, converged Friday at the feet of Seffner Christian graduating senior Garrett Saunders.
The Crusaders' baseball/football standout signed a dual-sport scholarship with NAIA Olivet Nazarene University -- located south of Chicago -- that afternoon, then was honored for his performances on altogether different stages that evening. According to his dad, Saunders was named best tenor in the school choir and best male performer in drama at the school's fine arts banquet.
He arrived at all the ceremonies with a shaved head, a prerequisite for his lead role as Daddy Warbucks in the SCA drama department's performance of Annie.
Saunders (6-foot-3, 225 pounds) is the 2-year-old Crusader football program's career leader in receptions (30), and is a four-time all-Bay Conference selection in baseball.
