If the early scholarship offers James Wilder Jr. received Tuesday are any indication, the Plant junior will likely be one of the nation's top recruits in the Class of 2011.

Tuesday was the first day that colleges can formally tender scholarship offers to high school juniors, and Wilder received official offer letters from Florida, Miami, Tennesee, South Carolina, West Virginia, Michigan and Florida International, Plant coach Robert Weiner said Wednesday.

Wilder also received phone calls from Southern Cal and Missouri making verbal offers.

"I would say it's the biggest windfall we've had for one player in one day," Weiner said. "That's a pretty impressive lineup from schools. I expected maybe two or three. I knew other schools were interested, but I didn't think he'd get this many in one day."

Also, Plant quarterback Phillip Ely received a scholarship offer letter from Florida International on Tuesday, Weiner said.
